East County's restaurant scene keeps maturing: Brentwood's downtown works for date night and family dinner, Discovery Bay's marina draws sunset boats and visitors, and Antioch, Oakley, and Pittsburg still punch above their weight with long-running family spots. Concord and Martinez are only 15–25 minutes from much of East County — worth folding into your rotation when you want variety without a full San Francisco trek.
Below are places we still send people to after a 2026 refresh (we removed Walnut Creek Yacht Club, which closed, and corrected a few names and neighborhoods). Always double-check hours and reservations before you go — waterfront and downtown spots change menus and staffing seasonally.
Brentwood
Co. Co. County Wine Company (downtown) — Wine bar and tasting room on First Street with flights, charcuterie, and a low-key downtown patio. Ideal when you want conversation and a glass without a full steakhouse bill.
Brentwood Craft Beer & Cider — Family-friendly taproom near downtown with rotating beer and cider, simple food (pizza, pretzels, boards), trivia night, and plenty of TVs when you want a casual hang.
La Costa — Upscale Mexican with handmade tortillas and a long tequila list. Carnitas and carne asada are reliable wins; the patio is comfortable on warm nights.
Locanda Capri — Downtown Brentwood Italian: house-made pastas, wood-fired pizzas, and a warm dining room that works for weeknight dinner or a table full of family.
Vic Stewart's Brentwood — Classic steakhouse energy when you want white-tablecloth service without driving over the hill.
Discovery Bay
Marina Bar and Grill | Discovery Bay — Mainstay on Marina Road: burgers, breakfast plates, bar classics, karaoke, and weekly events. Call ahead on busy weekends — the room fills fast when the weather turns nice.
Pirate's Bar & Grille — Casual marina deck, fish tacos, and a relaxed vacation-town vibe when the weather is nice.
Antioch
Slatter's Court — Rivertown Italian-American institution: lasagna, chicken parmesan, and the kind of generous plates that feel like a Sunday at your aunt's house.
Smith's Landing — Marina seafood with a deck that pays off on clear Delta afternoons.
Riley's American Pub — Solid bar menu, friendly pours, easy weeknight stop.
El Castillito — Representative of Antioch's family taqueria scene — huge burritos, real al pastor, prices that remind you you're still in the East County.
Oakley
Black Bear Diner — The practical family meeting spot: breakfast all day, big booths, zero drama with kids.
Casa Sanchez — Long-running Mexican with generous plates and fair checks.
Oakley Brick Oven — Wood-fired pizza with crust that earns repeat visits; salads are better than they have to be.
Pittsburg
La Veranda Ristorante Italiano (Old Town) — Family-run Italian on Railroad Avenue: red-sauce classics, seafood pastas, full bar, and the warm-service vibe Pittsburg's Italian-American history is known for.
Old Town Pittsburg taquerias — Legitimate options clustered along Railroad and nearby blocks — wander, compare salsa bars, and grab takeout on the way home.
The Galley — Casual dining at the marina with one of the nicer river sunsets in the area.
Concord
Eureka! (The Veranda) — Polished casual American in a shopping setting — dependable burgers, salads, and cocktails when you're already out that way for errands or a movie.
Luna Ristorante — Long-running, slightly dressier Italian near downtown Concord — pastas, seafood, and veal dishes when you want a quieter white-tablecloth night than the bar scene.
Martinez
Slow Hand BBQ — Oak-smoked barbecue on Main Street with scratch sides; a strong stop if you're headed toward the Carquinez bridges or the waterfront.
Del Cielo Brewing Co. — Downtown Martinez taproom with Latin-owned craft beer, events, and a community-forward feel — pair with a stroll toward the marina.
Worth the drive: Walnut Creek, Lafayette / Danville, and Clayton
When East County clients want a "city" night without crossing a bridge, this is the short list:
Va de Vi (Walnut Creek) — Globally inspired small plates, serious wine, and a leafy patio — still an East Bay date-night benchmark.
Telefèric Barcelona (Walnut Creek) — Spanish tapas, paella, and sangria overlooking downtown — a natural replacement pick if you miss a classic seafood house.
Lokanta (Walnut Creek) — Modern Mediterranean — kebabs, mezze, and a thoughtful bar.
Sasa (Walnut Creek) — Casual izakaya energy; yakitori and sake just off the Main Street bustle. Reservations help on weekends.
Sideboard (Lafayette or Danville) — The brand's locations are in Lafayette and Danville, not Pleasant Hill — neighborhood kitchen, strong breakfast and coffee, rotating dinner menus. Pick whichever side of the hill is closer after traffic.
Skipolini's (Clayton) — Original-location pizza hall of fame — giant pies, family crowds, and the famous "preggo" pizza. Easy to pair with a Mt. Diablo day.
A few patterns worth knowing
- Brentwood's better tables on Friday and Saturday really do book up — reserve early in the week.
- Discovery Bay slows down when the docks are full; build extra time into summer evenings or eat on the early side.
- Concord's Todos Santos / Veranda districts and downtown Walnut Creek remain the densest "pick anything" zones in Contra Costa — if you're undecided, walk the block and read menus.
- Before you drive: confirm the business is still open under the same name, especially for waterfront and independent operators.
If you have spots we missed (you will), tell us — we refresh this guide as closures and openings land.
